ERA-CVD Symposium – May 14th to 16th, 2019

ERA-CVD Sympoium May 2019
At the ERA-CVD symposium on May 14-16th 2019 at the University of Riga Latvia over 200 investigators participated from the funded projects of ERA-CVD’s three joint transnational calls (JTC). They discussed progresses and challenges of their research efforts together with experts who were invited by ERA-CVD.

During the symposium ERA-CVD also launched and presented its strategic research agenda (SRA-CVD) which was developed collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the European Heart Network (EHN) as well as stakeholders and researchers from all areas related to cardiovascular research.

On the afternoon of May 14th the program offered a networking event with open discussions in world café format along several topics like personalised medicine approaches for CVD research, regenerative strategic for CVD, optimising diagnosis and prevention for CVD, development of devices and wearables and, not least, patient involvement. The networking has been continued on a boat trip including a common dinner.

During the event the principle investigators from the funded consortia of JTC’s 2016 and 2017 presented their achievements at several sessions and there was a session for ‘pitch’ presentation of the JTC 2018 projects that have just started their activity. Furthermore ERA-CVD invited to the symposium over 50 PhD students and postdocs to display a poster about their work within the funded 38 consortia with over 140 research groups from more than 20 countries.

The symposium participants voted for the best poster and the awardee was Sarajo Mohanta (Picture 1) from the University Hospital of Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany from the consortium PLAQUEFIGHT.

Runners up were Pieter Goossens (Picture 2, left), Cardiovascular Research Institute, Maastricht University, the Netherlands (Consortium: AtheroMacHete) and Kristin Kräcker (Picture 2, right), Experimental and Clinical Research Center, MDC for Molecular Medicine and Charité Berlin, Germany (Consortium: HyperDiP)
